Johnnie (Buck) Buckner
BLACKSBURG - Johnnie James (Buck) Buckner, 82, of 201 E. Ramseur Drive, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
Born in Spindale, N.C., Mr. Buckner was the husband of Nan Wilkerson Buckner of the home and son of the late Erascus Wellington Buckner and the late Jessie Cumi Price Buckner. Mr. Buckner was co-owner of Iron City Pharmacy for 23 years. He then worked for Nichols in Gastonia and Eckerds of Gaffney. He was a retired member of the Board of Trustees for Palmetto Bank and was a member of Buffalo Lodge No. 202 A.F.M.
Mr. Buckner
loved woodworking
and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Buckner is survived by a son, Mark Buckner of Woodstock, Ga.; a daughter, Pam Buckner Holmes of Fairfax, Va.; four grandchildren; a brother, Harold Buckner of Anderson; two sisters, Gladys Buckner of Blacksburg and Bernice Smith of Granite Falls, N.C.; and an adopted daughter, Margaret Gordon of Bolingbrook, Ill.
Arrangements are incomplete. Gordon Mortuary is in charge.
The family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 103 S. Rutherford St., Blacksburg, SC 29702; or to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342.
