Porkchop Productions will present 'Little Red Riding Hood' at Gaffney, Blacksburg libraries
July 13 performances part of library's Summer Reading Program
      Porkchop Productions will present Little Red Riding Hood on Monday, July 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the Blacksburg Library and at 2:30 p.m. at the Cherokee County Public Library in Gaffney. Children of all ages will enjoy Porkchop Productions' fanciful adaptation of this classic fairy tale. All of the favorite characters (and a few new ones) are brought to life.

      Anyone interested in competing in the South Carolina Peach Festival's New Talent Night has until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 10, to sign-up. Sponsored by the Blacksburg Rotary Club, the show will be Tuesday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Fullerton Auditorium at Limestone College.

USC archaeologists locate Confederate cannons, naval yard
Artifacts, artillery shells retrieved from Pee Dee River
      Archaeologists from the University of South Carolina and East Carolina University have located two large cannon from a sunken Confederate gunboat in the Pee Dee River and have identified where the Mars Bluff Naval Yard once stood on the east side of the river in Marion County.

     DONATION - Susan Harris of the Cherokee Children's Home accepts a donation from Edie Sprouse, representing employees of First Piedmont Federal who recently collected supplies for the home. Some of the items donated are paper products that the home plans to put to good use by taking the children on picnics. "We are very appreciative of First Piedmont and the employees. During such tough economic times it is wonderful to be able to cut our expenses and this very generous donation will assist us in this," Harris said.

Rose Hill Plantation hosts day-long 'Plantation Children' program July 22
      UNION - Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site invites children ages eight to 14 to come play in the19th century. "Plantation Children" is an educational and recreational program that will be presented Wednesday, July 22, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Pre-registration is recommended and registration at the park on the day of the event will be available.
