Schools open under tight security

      Cherokee County students in year-round schools return to school Thursday under much different circumstances than a couple days ago. The Newberry County Sheriff's Office provided school resource officers temporarily at Luther Vaughan, Mary Bramlett and Alma elementaries this week.

     Hundreds paid their repsects and offered condolences Tuesday evening to the Tyler family following the loss of Stephen Tyler and his 15-year-old daughter, Abby. The two were killed by serial killer Patrick Burris Thursday evening at the family-owned Tyler Home Center furniture store on Frederick Street.
