Post 109 overpowers Union in makeup game

The Post 109 American Legion team entered this week focused on developing playoff depth headed into the state playoffs.

The results were mixed.Corey Crissone passed his audition on the mound Tuesday, pitching six solid innings in a 11-5 win over Union. John Michaels didn't fare as well on Monday when Inman struck for 10 runs in the first two innings on their way to a 17-3 victory over Post 109.

Bobby Jackson went 3-3 with a home run and two RBIs against Inman. Lee Gerwick was 2-3 with an RBI double.

There is little at stake for Post 109 this week after clinching the league championship.

Post 109 coach Jeff Osment said the primary goal is to stay sharp and find additional players who can contribute to the team's success.

"We just want to get our team ready and keep our players sharp," Osment said. "We are mixing things up a little this week to give different players more innings and experience."

In Tuesday's game, Bobby Jackson hit a 2-run home run in the first inning after McCrae Norton led off the game with a double.

Post 109 scored three runs in the fifth inning to increase its lead to 5-1.Ryan Westbrooks led off the inning with a single.

Bryan Parsons had a double. Westbrooks and Parsons scored on a 2-run RBI single by Jackson. Jackson stole second and scored on a double by Michael Hughey.

Post 109 took control of the game with five runs in the sixth inning.

Crissone opened the inning with a single and scored on a double by Gerwick. Norton got on base with a walk.

Westbrooks and Parsons followed with 2-run RBI doubles. Post 109 scored its final run in the ninth inning when Jason Biershenk doubled and scored when Westbrooks walked with the bases loaded.

Post 109 plays Spartanburg Wednesday in the regular season finale. The playoffs begin next week.
