Gaffney Little Theatre announces schedule of shows for 2009-2010

'Heidi' will kick-off new season in September

Phil Gibbons, president of the Gaffney Little Theatre, has announced the schedule for the 2009- 2010 season.

Heidi, a beloved children's classic, has been adapted for the stage by June Waker Rogers from the novel by Johanna Spyri. The show, which contains roles for men, women and children (ages 8 and above), opens the new season Sept. 17-20. The Thursday through Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m. with the Sunday performance a matinee at 3.

Rebel Without a Cause, the stage version of the popular movie that brought James Dean to stardom, will cast young adults, ages 16 to 30, in major roles. The show is scheduled for Nov. 12-15. The play is centered around young people and how they relate to each other. It is timely in that it looks at gangs, betrayal and self-discovery.

Aladdin Jr., a play written for middle school and high school students, will be he first play of 2010. Welcome to Agrabah, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail. Join Aladdin, Jasmine and, of course, the Genie in an award-winning rollick that includes song like "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me." Show dates are Feb. 11-13 and Feb. 18-21.

Peter Pan, presented by the Gaffney Children's Theatre, is scheduled for six shows: April 15-17 at 7:30 p.m.; April 23-24 at 7:30 p.m.; and April 25 at 3 p.m. The play will be cast with children in grades 2 through 5. Written by James M. Barrie, the show whisks the audience away to Never Land where children never grow up. You'll be cast into enchantment by Captain Hook, Tiger Lily, Wendy, Tinker Bell and Peter Pan in this heartwarming play that will stir your childhood memories.

The Foreigner, written by Larry Shue, is a comedy set in a fishing lodge in Georgia involving Charlie Baker and Englishman Froggy LeSueur. Charlie, not knowing a bit of English, becomes privy to secrets and scandals. When the Southern Belle's younger brother tries to teach Charlie to speak, the fun and hilarity begin. The show runs June 17-20.
