Retired from textile industry

Lois Carmie Farley Lavender, 97, of 132 Scruggs Lane, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 16, 2009.

Born in Bryson City, N.C., she was the widow of Willie C. Lavender and daughter of the late Kirby Smith Farley and Carrie Elizabeth Taylor Farley. She was retired from the textile industry and was a homemaker and a member of State Line Baptist Church, where she was active in Sunday School and involved in Keenagers.

She is survived by a son, Ernest Lavender and wife, Bessie, of Gaffney; six daughters, Elizabeth Darwin of Gaffney, Frances Hammett of Chesnee, Eula Lookadoo and husband, Ray, of Gaffney, Louise Lancaster and husband, Melvin, of Gaffney, Juanita Ramsey and husband, Ronald, of Gaffney and Laverne Wilson and husband, Jim, of Wichita Falls, Texas; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and nine greatgreat grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Lavender was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters.

Services will be held Monday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at State Line Baptist Church with Chaplain Chad Bowen and the Rev. Beth Sexton officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was held Sunday, July 19, from 5-7 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to State Line Baptist Church, 1328 State Line Church Road, Gaffney, SC 29341; or to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 1612 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, SC 29340.

The family is at the home of Juanita and Ronald Ramsey, 908 Green River Road.
