Starting today, the county will no longer be paying the Medicaid supplement for new hirees.

The move is to reduce the county's liability from $500,000 a year to about $350,000.

Cherokee County Assistant Administrator Holland Belue said the post-employment benefit costs the county about $200 a month.

Cherokee County Council also will turn its attention to several project bids. After a review by its finance committee, council is expected to award its bid for the road paving projects and its demolition work at the old mill site, Belue said.

Council also will spend part of today's meeting in executive session with Cherokee County Development Board Director Jim Cook. The topic will be an industrial prospect for the county.

The council meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at the Spartanburg Community College's branch campus.
