Council awards paving contract to low bidder
Cherokee County Council on Monday awarded a $700,000 paving contract to Sloan Construction — the low bidder on a project that includes 21 roads slated for resurfacing by Cherokee County Council.
Prior to awarding the bid, Cherokee County Council Finance Committee Chairman Charles Mathis terminated the county's contract with Cherokee Landscaping because the length of their agreement violated state law. The maximum length of the contract under state law is two years. The county and Cherokee Landscaping were operating under a 3-year agreement.
Cherokee Landscaping submitted the third-highest bid of $752,263 — about $50,000 more than Granite Contracting's bid of $704,346.
Boggs Paving had the highest bid of $842,443.
Work on the roads should begin in early August.
Last month, council announced its 2009 road paving list, which includes: District 1 — Rufus Foster North Granard Street Extension Short Alley District 2 — B.
