Indians show improvement during summer workouts
Gaffney passing coordinator Perry Woolbright and the Indians will wrapup summer on-field workouts on Thursday. Most high school football coaches don't get too high or too low about things in the summer. But Gaffney's Phil Strickland can't hide his excitement about the progress his team has made during the summer workouts and passing tournaments.
"I feel like we are on the right track," Strickland said. "I feel like we are getting better."
The Indians wrapped up their final passing league session at Laurens High on Tuesday.
Strickland noted the players have picked up the new secondary coverages and offensive scheme, which features an H-back set.
Strickland said the H-back set solves some blocking problems the team experienced a year ago.
In yet another plus, Strickland said the players made it through summer practice without any major injuries.
"Everybody is healthy," he said.
The team has another 7-on-7 practice session scheduled for Thursday before the coaching staff heads to Columbia for the annual coaching clinic, which begins next week.
The Indians will begin preseason practice on Friday, July 31. The 2-adays will begin at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
