Reunion
The Small Fry Gang will hold its annual gathering on Monday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Aegean restaurant to award a $4,000 college scholarship and have a reunion fellowship. Several former scholarship winners are expected to attend. Committee reports and a memorial time will be part of the brief program. Anyone wishing to attend should gather in the private dining room at the Baker Boulevard restaurant prior to 6:30.
Church news
New Mt. Zion Baptist Church is having a celebration of the 14th pastoral anniversary of Dr. Roger and First Lady Lillian Mason this week. Events include: July 22, prayer night, 7 p.m.; July 23, youth night, 7 p.m.; July 24, singing program, 7 p.m.; July 25, First Lady's Day.
Shady Grove Baptist Church will observe Women's Day on Sunday, Aug. 9, during the 11 a.m. worship service. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Annah Montgomery, associate minister of Antioch Baptist Church and former associate minister of Shady Grove. The missionaries will be in charge of the service and will make several special presentations.
Fund raiser
Blacksburg Youth Football will have a fund raising extravaganza Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at the corner of Hill and Lime streets in Blacksburg (across from Patterson Feed). Along with lots of fun, there will be hamburgers, hot dogs, fish and more for sale. Games include inflatables, a dunk tank, pie in the face contest, cake walks and more. Donations are appreciated. The We Do Care Foundation will have a fund raiser July 25, from 10 a.m. until at the American Legion Hut on Martin Luther King Street. The menu includes: Hash: pints, $6, sandwich, $2.50, plate, $6 (includes slaw and baked beans). Fish: Sandwich, $3, plate $6; Hot dogs, single, $1.25, plate $5 (includes two hot dogs). Slaw is $2.50 a pint; a 12-oz. can drink is 75- cents. All proceeds will go to the We Do Care Foundation to help the needy citizens of Cherokee County. Donations are appreciated.
The Voice of Triumph Church family will host a multiple family yard sale Saturday, July 25, at the American Community Bank parking lot in Blacksburg. The sale begins at 7 a.m. and continues until ?. There will be baked goods, cold drinks, appliances, clothes, toys, equipment and items too numerous to mention. All proceeds will help with the church expenses and repairs. If it rains, the sale will be in the church dining room, 179 Corry Road, Blacksburg. Those who have items to donate to the sale may call Ann Rogers, 864- 839-0111 or 864-489-4010.
