STAFF REPORTS

Ryan Mallam has announced his resignation as head coach of the Limestone College men's and women's swimming programs.

Mallam will be moving to Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla., where he will serve as the assistant coach for the intercollegiate men's and women's swimming teams, and will also serve as the head coach for the club swimming program.

"I'd like to thank the administration at Limestone for giving me the opportunity to work with such a great group of student-athletes," Mallam said. "It was a great experience working in the Saints athletics department."

Under Mallam's guidance last season, seven of Limestone's men's swimmers earned All-America honors, and eight of the Saints recorded All- Bluegrass Mountain Conference times.

Mallam guided the men's swimming team to a fourth-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Division II Championships. He also coached Goran Majlat to the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay team to a national championship.

On the women's side, five swimmers were named All-Americans and seven garnered All- Conference honors.

"I want to thank Coach Mallam for lifting our swimming program to new heights," Director of Athletics Mike Cerino said. "I wish him and his family great success in the future."

Mallam will be leaving Limestone to work with another very successful program. Indian River is the winningest junior college program in the country.

The men's team has won the National Junior College Athletic Association national championship every year since 1975. The women's program has claimed the national championship every season since 1983 and also earned the title from 1976-1979.

Limestone will begin a nationwide search for a head coach immediately.
