Woodrow J. Carroll
BLACKSBURG - Woodrow Jasper Carroll, 95, of 744 Jumping Branch Road, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Wendover Hospice.
A native of Cherokee County, Mr. Carroll was the widower of Eola Martin Carroll and the last surviving of 15 children of the late Johnson Goforth and Avalonia McSwain Carroll. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Gary Carroll.
Mr. Carroll was a retired self-employed farmer and textile worker, and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Carroll are a son, W.J. Carroll and wife, Pat, of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Janet Carroll Ware and husband, Melvin, of Blacksburg; five grandchildren, Brian Ware of Kings Mountain, Ronnie Carroll of Forest City, Susan Ware Anderson of Barnwell, Kenneth Ware of Tucker, Ga., and Elizabeth Carroll Nicholson of Kings Mountain; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 24, at Gordon Mortuary from 6- 8 p.m. Services will be held Saturday, July 25, at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Revs. Vernon Craig and Ronell Owensby officiating. Entombment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that memorials be made to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342; or to Wendover Hospice, 953 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
The family will be at 736 Jumping Branch Road, Blacksburg.
