Victim of fatal accident identified

A person killed in a fiery Sunday morning crash on Sunny Slope Drive was identified Monday afternoon as a 43-year-old Love Springs Road man. Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said Raymond Anthony Austin was identified through dental records. An autopsy conducted Monday in Newberry indicated Austin died before the fire, Fowler said. "Mr. Austin died from injuries sustained in the crash," Fowler said. "I have ruled the death accidental." Authorities said Austin's 1997 Ford pickup truck left the roadway on Sunny Slope Drive at about 3:50 a.m. Sunday, crashed into a tree and burst into flames. A neighbor saw the flames and called 9-1-1. Firefighters found the pickup truck fully engulfed upon their arrival. (Staff Reports)
