B&B Trojans claim tournament crown

DeEdward Burris scored 16 points to lead the B&B Trojans past AZ Hustlers, 61-55, to claim the Division I Cherokee County Summer Youth Basketball tournament championship Friday at B.D. Lee Elementary.

In the Division II tournament championship game, Freightliner built an 18-point halftime lead to cruise to a 51- 32 win over regular-season champion Bethel No. 2. Mykerrius Davidson had 18 points in a winning cause.

Laquisha Dawkins had 12 points for Bethel No. 2.

In the closely-contested Division II championship game, the Bulldogs went on a spurt to break a halftime tie and beat the Jayhawks, 19-14. Deonta Kershaw had nine points for the winners.

SageSport outscored regular-season champion Classic Cuts by 11 points in the second half to capture the Division IV tournament championship with a 16-10 victory.

The summer league concludes this week with an all-star game on Tuesday and a series of all-star games with teams from Spartanburg, Gastonia and Columbia, Shelby and Greenville on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
