CHAPS planning reunion of Central School alumni
A Central School alumni reunion planning session was held July 22 in the board room at the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum. The next meeting of the organizers will be Thursday, July 30, at 9 a.m. at the museum, 301 College Drive. Anyone interested in helping with the event is welcome to attend. A reunion of Central School alumni is being planned to help raise money for the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum, located in the former Central School building at 301 College Drive.
The reunion is set for Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. A drop-in affair, students from a range of approximately 10 years will come at specific times. A variety of indoor and outdoor activities is being planned.
One of the major fund raisers CHAPS is offering is the sale of bricks in honor of or in memory of a loved one. The bricks will be placed in walkways around the museum. CHAPS will also have scrapbooks at the reunion from which alumni can purchase copies of pictures as well as photos of the old school and the new school.
Former Central School principals Alfred McGaha and Billy Elmore are serving as chairman and co- chairman of the reunion, respectively, while the planning committee includes former faculty and students.
The next meeting will be Thursday, July 30, at 9 a.m. at the museum. Anyone interested in helping organize the event is asked to contact the museum at its web site, www.cherokeecountyhistory. org; by phone (864)489-3988; or fax (864) 489-8541.
