SPARTANBURG - In its 2009-2010 season, the Spartanburg Little Theatre will celebrate icons of book, stage, song and screen: the beautiful Eliza Doolittle, the cunning Sherlock Holmes, the incomparable Frank Sinatra, the inspiring Dr. Seuss, and the hilarious Steve Martin.
"My Fair Lady" is set for Sept. 11-13 and Sept. 18-20. Set in 1930s London, "My Fair Lady" tells the story of distinguished phonetics professor Henry Higgins, who wagers that he can transform common flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a lady by teaching her to speak properly. Little does he know what she will teach him. This Tony Award-winning musical masterpiece is a must-see for the entire family.
"The Hound of the Baskervilles" will be presented Oct. 30-Nov. 1 and Nov. 6-8. In the greatest of all Sherlock Holmes adventures, Sir Henry is heir to the vast Baskerville fortune, a legacy that comes with a family curse: death at the fangs of a horror that prowls the moor. Suspicion falls on sinister servants, butterfly collectors, ladies in distress and escaped convicts. Only Sherlock Holmes can stop the beast and solve the crime.
"My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra" is set for Jan. 15-17 and Jan. 22- 23. A fitting tribute to the music that etched memories into the hearts and minds of millions, "My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra" pays homage to this celebrated performer's influence on popular music. Great songs combined with witty and charming dialog create an eye-popping and ear-pleasing performance that will leave you feeling like the Chairman of the Board.
"Seussical" will be presented March 5- 7 and March 12-14. "Oh, the thinks you can think" when Dr. Seuss' best-loved characters and stories hit the stage in this unforgettable musical adventure. The noble Horton the Elephant, the onefeathered bird Gertrude McFuzz, and the antics of the Cat in the Hat steal the spotlight. Audiences of all ages will see the whimsical and wild world of Dr. Seuss come to life, just in time for his 106th birthday.
Steve Martin's "The Underpants" is scheduled May 7-9 and May 14-16. "The Underpants" is a hilarious look at the chaos and commotion caused by a simple act of fate, and a flash of a lady's undergarments. Adapted from Carl Sternheim's "Die Hose" for modern audiences by Steve Martin, it is an outrageous, over-the-top and utterly hilarious look at feminism, sexism and politics
