A popular Upstate dining spot has expressed an interest in locating a restaurant in Gaffney.

Chiefs, Wings and Firewater, with restaurants in Greenville, Spartanburg, Easley and Anderson, are considering locating in the former Ruby Tuesdays on Floyd Baker Boulevard, according to sources familiar with the project.

The casual dining restaurant offers menu items similar to Wild Wings, Hooters and Buffalos.

The sources said a company official met with the city's building department staff last week. At that meeting, the company official asked about tax incentives available to new businesses, the sources said.

The company is now trying to determine if Gaffney is a large enough market to meet its annual sales goals.

According to its Web site, the company is hoping to open 12 more restaurants in Western North Carolina and the Upstate of South Carolina over the next three years.

Jack Trnavsky, chairman of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, said the restaurant would provide a big boost to the local economy.

"It would be a big positive," he said.

A call to company official Michael Varner wasn't returned Thursday.
