For top-seeded Florence, it was just another win. For Gaffney Post 109, it was a game to forget.

Michael Wilson, Spencer Jordan and Phillip Henry each had two hits and Florence took advantage of uncharacteristic shoddy defense from Post 109 to post a surprisingly easy 14-4 victory in the state tournament winner's bracket game Thursday at Duncan Park. The game was called after Wilson lashed a bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the seventh to give Florence a 10-run bulge.

Post 109 faces West Columbia at 1 p.m. today in an elimination game.

Gaffney led 3-0 lead after three innings on Ryan Westbrook's RBI double and solo homer and Michael Hughey's run-scoring double. Gaffney had a chance to add to its lead in the third inning but stranded runners at second and third with one out.

The momentum changed for good in the bottom of third when Florence struck for five runs off Westbrook, who allowed only one infield hit to that point. Two runs came home when Gaffney was slow to return the ball to the infield on Chandler McKenna's single to center. Charlie Abbott then put Florence on top for good with a 2-run double.

Florence added three more unearned runs on a throwing error and a pair of runs on back-to-back singles to build its lead to 10-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bubba Wright then replaced Westbrook and got the final out of the inning.

Abbott went five innings to pick up the win.

In the tournament opener on Wednesday, Gaffney led by as many as five runs before holding on for a 7-4 victory over Georgetown.

With the score tied at 1 in the sixth inning, Bryan Parsons knocked in two runs with a triple and he later scored on a wild pitch to give Post 109 a 4-1 lead.

Georgetown cut it to 4-2 before Gaffney scored three times on Hughey's 2-run bloop single and a hit by Michael Wright.

Jason Biershenk got the win, allowing four runs in eight innings. Bubba Wright pitched a scoreless ninth for Post 109.
