(Ledger photo / TIM GULLA) A North Carolina man injured in a motorcycle collision in Gaffney Thursday afternoon has died at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Casey Lee Greene, 28, of 131 John Hoyle Road, Lawndale, died Friday at 5:05 p.m. from a head injury suffered in the accident on Wilcox Avenue, Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said.

"The victim was not wearing a helmet and suffered a head injury that attributed to his death I have ruled accidental," Fowler said.

Greene was the driver and lone occupant of a 1983 Yamaha motorcycle headed east on Wilcox Avenue Thursday at 3:50 p.m, said Cpl. Bryan McDougald of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Greene lost control of his motorcycle while traveling in a heavy rainstorm with water on the road, McDougald said. Greene crossed over the center line and struck the left front of a 2006 Honda driven by Gaffney resident Kathy E. Simpson.

No charges are pending, McDougald said. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.

Simpson was wearing her seat belt and was not injured, the trooper said. Greene was taken by ambulance to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He is the seventh person to die on Cherokee County roads this year.
