Turner - Thompson vows spoken Aug. 1 at Draytonville Church
      Amy Reneé Turner and William Rushton Thomson exchanged marriage vows on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Draytonville Baptist Church. The Rev. Weldon Sellers officiated the 5 p.m. double ring ceremony. Escorted and given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by Alisha Hudson as maid of honor.

Auditions this week for 'Heidi'
GLT's first show of 2009-2020 season is set for Sept. 17-20
      Auditions for Heidi, the Gaffney Little Theatre's first production of the 2009-2010 season, are scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 4, and Thursday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. at the theatre. Each person auditioning will read a part from the script so no advance preparation is necessary. According to Tedi Gibbons, director, the play requires three men, nine women and six children.

      Dear Annie: Our son, "Luc," has been married for 22 years, but the last two have been under the most trying circumstances. Luc's marriage is a sham, and they are both at fault. He and my daughter-in-law are unhappy, but continue to live together for the sake of their two teenage children. Our daughter-in-law is a control freak and fiercely competitive.

     TEAM WORK - At right, a team of youths works to overcome obstacles at Irene Pool's recent Fun Day activities. The day's events included inner tube races, noodle races, target shooting with water guns, climbing through tubes and diving through hula-hoops. First Piedmont Federal provided the additional lifeguards required for the event as well as door prizes. The pool is located at 302 W. Montgomery St. and will continue to be open Monday through Saturday from 1:30-4:50 p.m. until Aug. 14. Admission is $2.

      Many local residents have used their summer vacation time this year to help others and improve their community. Businesses, groups and churches have made volunteering at the Cherokee Children's Home one of their top priorities.
