Auditions this week for 'Heidi'
Auditions for Heidi, the Gaffney Little Theatre's first production of the 2009-2010 season, are scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 4, and Thursday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. at the theatre.
Each person auditioning will read a part from the script so no advance preparation is necessary. According to Tedi Gibbons, director, the play requires three men, nine women and six children. A set construction crew, consisting of builders and painters, is also needed. Interested persons may come either Tuesday or Thursday night. A technical crew of assistant director, stage manager, costume director and lighting director is also needed.
The role of Heidi calls for a girl from eight to 10 years old. Peter, a goatherd, is 11 to 13 years of age. Clara, the disabled child, is 11 to 13. Grandfather Sebastian and Mr. Seseman are older men; Peter's Grandmother, Mrs. Rottenmeier, and Miss Helpmann are older women. The older adult roles may be played by actors of any age. The children, other than the ones already described, must be in at least third grade.
Gaffney Little Theatre brochures, containing membership information for the new season, will be mailed in late August. Anyone wishing to have a brochure mailed should call the GLT office, 489-4589, and leave a name and mailing address; speak slowly and clearly to the voice mail. Anyone with questions may call Gibbons at 489-9863.
Heidi, a classic story of a little girl who is taken to her grandfather to be raise by him high in the Swiss Alps, has no idea that Grandfather has become a hermit, with no desire for a child or anyone else to bother him. Just when the old man is beginning to soften towards her, Heidi is whisked away to Germany to serve as a companion to a disabled child.
Four performances of the play are set for Sept. 17-19 at 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday matinee Sept. 20 at 3.
