Alene Childress Kersey Clarke, 109, of Richmond, Va., widow of Stuart A. Kersey Sr. and Clarence Clarke, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2009.

A loving Mother who sacrificed so much for her children, she retired from the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond with 35 years of service. She was a member of the Scotchtown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was the last of 11 children born to John and Effie Lush Childress of Chesterfield. Mrs. Clarke was a member of Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church in Henrico, Va.

She is survived by daughters, Ann Kersey Harris Graham and husband, Howard, of Midlothian, Va., and Jacquelyn Kersey Smith (Lloyd) of Henrico; four sons, the Rev. Stuart A. Kersey Jr. and wife, Margaret Jean, of Gaffney, John Phillip Kersey Sr. and wife, Betty, of Ashland, Va., Gerald D. Kersey and wife, Nancy, of Henrico, Donald R. Kersey and wife, Helen, of Ashland; 14 grandchildren, Joan Harris Heath, Kathy Harris Troxler, Leslie Smith, Rev. Wayne Smith, Barry Smith, Beth Smith Harris, Nanette Kersey Richardson, Stuart H. Kersey, John Kersey Jr., Matthew Kersey, Duane Kersey Blackwell, Dr. David L. Kersey, Sandra Kersey McPeak and Linda Kersey Samimi; 27 great grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the employees of Manor Care, Imperial Plaza for their loving care.

Graveside services were Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. in Riverview Cemetery with her son, the Rev. Stuart A. Kersey, officiating.

Visitation was held Friday, July 31, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home in Mechanicsville, Va.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, 2300 Dumbarton Road, Henrico, VA 23228, att: Kitchen Renovation.
