D. B. McAbee
D.B. McAbee, 86, of Darby Road passed away Thursday evening, July 30, 2009, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the widower of Irene Mullinax McAbee and son of the late Tom and Annie Harris McAbee.
Mr. McAbee served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Infantry and Army Air Corps. He was a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church and a retired general store clerk.
He leaves behind a brother, Boyce McAbee, of Gaffney and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was precede in death by five sisters, Myrtle Upchurch, Lola Godby, Grace Burris, Amanda Upchurch and Lois Mullinax; five brothers: William K. McAbee, Roy McAbee, Jessie McAbee, James McAbee and George Mc- Abee; and a loved companion, Kathleen Mullinax.
Graveside services were held Sunday, Aug. 2, at 4 p.m. at Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Revs. William Blanton and Dean Painter officiating.
Pallbearers were Kevin Childers, Scott McAbee, Scott Mullinax, Wayne Lanier, Jeff Upchurch and Travis Mullinax.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy Mullinax and Charlie Painter.
Visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 1, from 6-7 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home at Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Special thanks are given to Gladys, Lois and Randy Mullinax for their loyal care during the later parts of Mr. McAbee's life.
The family is at 626 Peeler Creek Road.
