City road paving list finalized — sort of

It wasn't your typical reaction to a request from his council members.

Then, again, trying to devise a road-paving plan to please six diverse council members would likely make anybody imitate stabbing one's heart with a stake.

City Administrator James Taylor's light-hearted response to the request belies the difficulty of the task - allotting each council district $50,000 in road paving project funds over the next two years despite the wide disparity in costs associated with each road project. Taylor also must make sure his final list complies with Department of Transportation guidelines that require that 25 percent of the money be spent on state roads.

The city receives $150,000 in C-Funds each year, but typically elects to add those funds to next year's appropriation to give each council member enough money to complete larger road projects.

Taylor told council members he likely will tinker with the road lists and might even be forced to pave some roads that were omitted from the final road paving list unveiled at Monday's council meeting.

Here is the final list of road-paving requests submitted by city council members, but that list could be altered by Taylor.

District 1 (Wayne Ramsey)

— Carlisle Street from Cherokee Avenue to North Limestone Street, from North Limestone Street to West Granard Street and from West Granard Street to North Logan Street.

— New Street from Colonial Avenue to Rugby Street.

District 2 (Tom Reid)

— Pleasant Meadows from Floyd Baker Boulevard to Wilcox Avenue.

District 3 (Bernard Smith)

— Hetty Hill Street to Colonial Avenue

District 4 (Dennis Ramsey)

— Browning Road to Huntington Drive

- Saxon Drive from Brittany Road to Chaucer Drive

District 5 (Boone Peeler)

— Robinhood Drive from Nott Street to Thompson Street

— Brookside Drive to Sherwood Drive

— Smith Street from Overbrook Drive to Poplar Street

District 6 (Billy Love)

— Bo Lane from Cooper Street to cul-desac

— Eastwood Drive to Crestview Drive
