Mickey Moss Mickey Moss Blacksburg High School seniors carried a legacy Saturday while taking team pictures for the final chapter in their high school playing careers.

Senior linemen Ryan Sizemore, Dylan Lowery, Alex Campbell and Brett Lanier hoisted a board on their shoulders as a symbol of the accomplishments by previous Blacksburg football teams. The scoreboard on the school's football field recognizes all region championships won by Blacksburg dating back to the 1940s.

Blacksburg has 30 players on this year's varsity roster. The team began practice last Friday, hoping to build on their first playoff appearance in several years.

Blacksburg will host its second annual Iron City football jamboree Aug. 14 at 6:30 p.m. on Blanton Field at T.A. Campbell Stadium. Admission is $6.

Blacksburg will be joined in the Iron City Jamboree by Landrum, Southside Christian, Broome, Kings Mountain and St. Josephs. Each team will play for two quarters in a game type situation complete with referees and live kicking game situations.

"We have an excellent jamboree. We are excited about all teams participating," Blacksburg coach Mickey Moss said. "Each half will be played like a regular game. All the kicks are live."

Landrum and Southside Christian will play the first half followed by a contest between Broome and Kings Mountain. Blacksburg will play St. Josephs in the evening's final game.

Each team will play for two quarters in the jamboree. The game will provide coaches with extra time to watch their players and see how their teams react in different situations.

"This is a good opportunity for our players to play under the lights in a game situation before our season opener," Moss said.
