Traffic on Interstate 85 was backed up for eight miles Friday afternoon when a tractor-trailer traveling south ran off the road and clipped the sign for Exit 83 near the Spartanburg-Cherokee County line outside Cowpens. The truck driver was not injured in the 1:53 p.m. accident, which occurred just past the 83 Mile Marker. Traffic in the southbound lanes was delayed for an hour and a half while the site was being cleared.
