Gospel singings
The Phillips Family will be at Pacolet Road Baptist Church, 1104 Pacolet Hwy., for a special singing Sunday, Aug. 9, at 6 p.m, Everyone welcome.
The Copenhavers from Creston, Ohio, and the Two Old Saints (Booney and Phyllis Wood) from Boiling Springs will be in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Chesnee Gospel Music Center on Greenlake Road in Chesnee. Meetings
Cherokee County Republican Women will meet Monday, Aug. 10, at 11:45 a.m. at the Aegean Restaurant on Baker Boulevard. Speaker will be Solicitor Trey Gowdy. The Caring for America project for the month is school supplies for the Cherokee County Children's Home. Guests are always welcome. The Class of 1974 will have a 35th reunion planning meeting Monday, Aug. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Aegean Pizza.
School news
Grassy Pond Elementary School will have its Open House/ Title 1 Annual Meeting on Thursday, Aug. 13. K-2 meets from 5-6:30 p.m. and 3-5 meets from 6-7:30 p.m. A brief meeting will be held in the gym with classroom visitation afterwards.
B.D. Lee Elementary will have a "Welcome Back" school orientation on Aug. 13 from 5:30-7 p.m. There will be a mandatory parent meeting in the gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. All parents are encouraged to attend. During orientation parents will have the opportunity to meet their child's teacher and pay the following fees: $5 instruction fee for kindergarten through fifth grade and kindergarten snack fee of 50 cents a day. The school supply list will be district wide located at Wal-Mart. The PTO will allow parents the opportunity to purchase the following: car magnets, $1, car decals, $2, and 2008-2009 yearbooks, $6.
Church news
Abingdon Creek Baptist Church, 187 Abingdon Road, will have homecoming services Sunday, Aug. 9.
West End Baptist Church, 400 Overbrook Drive, will have homecoming services Sunday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. Guest speaker will be James Epting, president of North Green-ville University. Musical guest will be Rosalee Johnson.
The Tabernacle of Love on Cherokee Falls Road will have revival services Aug. 10-15 at 7 p.m. Evangelist Sheila Griggs will bring the messages.
Shady Grove Baptist Church will observe Women's Day on Sunday, Aug. 9, during the 11 a.m. worship service. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Anna Montgomery, associate minister of Antioch Baptist Church and former associate minister of Shady Grove. The missionaries will be in charge of the service and will make several special presentations.
An old-time revival will be held Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Aug. 10-12 at 7 p.m. at Blue Branch Baptist Church. Dr. Larry Melton will bring the messages and the Rev. Eddie Smith invites everyone to attend.
Homecoming services will be held Sunday, Aug. 9, at Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg. The Rev. Joel Phillips will be the guest speaker at 11 a.m. and lunch will follow the morning service in the fellowship building. The Good News Trio will be singing at 6 p.m.

Jerry Aiken, pastor of Antioch AME Church, Clinton.
The YWAs of Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road, Cowpens, will celebrate their anniversary Sunday, Aug. 9, during the 9:30 a.m worship services. YWAs will be in the charge and guest speaker will be Kim Tate Brown, associate minister of Piney Grove Baptist Church, Cowpens.
Family reunions
Descendants of the late Robert McCraw Bratton and Lucinda Alexander Bratton will have their annual reunion Sunday, Aug. 16, in the fellowship hall of Mt.
