POLICE REPORT
City police arrested a Gaffney man Friday afternoon following a chase through a wooded area.
Joshua E. Wood, 30, of 602 Littlejohn St., is charged with breaking arrest, possession of an unlawful weapon and loitering, according to police documents.
A criminal records check by police found Wood is wanted for a probation violation by Cleveland County (N.C.) authorities. Wood has several felony drug convictions and a criminal domestic violence conviction, a police report states.
Officer B.C. Greene answered a call regarding a report of loitering Friday at 5 p.m. at West Carlisle and Sarratt streets, according to an incident report on file at the Gaffney Police Department.
Greene stated Wood began to walk down West Carlisle Street towards King Street when Wood saw the police cruiser. Greene stated he pulled up beside Wood as Wood entered a yard on West Carlise Street and asked Wood to stop.
The report states that Wood began to run across the yard towards Littlejohn Street and that Wood dropped what appeared to be a handgun while being chased by the police officer.
The chase continued across Sarratt Street before the officer caught Wood behind a house on Sarratt Street and took him into custody.
A witness helped police find a pellet gun along the route that the chase covered.
