132 YEARS OLD — "The history of a church is, and rightly should be, directly interwoven into the history of the community of which it is a part, and no church better illustrates this fact than Limestone Presbyterian Church," observed the authors of a short history of this church on its 75th anniversary. The City of Gaffney was only three years old when those few Presbyterians living in the community decided they needed more than occasional sermons from itinerant ministers of their denomination. Answering a request for advice and aid, a commission of the South Carolina Presbytery organized Limestone Presbyterian Church on Aug. 18, 1877 - naming the church after the current postal address of the community and the nearby springs, site of a curative spa in pre-Civil War days. As Limestone Presbyterian Church celebrates its 132nd birthday, its ongoing life confidently reflects these words printed in the 1995 Church Directory: "... Most of all, (its history) is a story of grateful members striving to do God's will by loving Him with all our hearts and minds and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves." 132 YEARS OLD — "The history of a church is, and rightly should be, directly interwoven into the history of the community of which it is a part, and no church better illustrates this fact than Limestone Presbyterian Church," observed the authors of a short history of this church on its 75th anniversary.
