Prints on display at City Hall
Selected pieces from the Limestone College Student Print Collection will be on display in the Gaffney City Hall Gallery from now until Monday, September 14, 2009. The gallery is on the second floor of the Gaffney City Hall, located at 201 North Limestone Street in Downtown Gaffney.
Printmaking is a type of art where multiple copies of the original can be duplicated. There are many kinds of prints. This collection is comprised of wood block and silkscreen techniques. Woodblock prints, originated in China, are categorized as relief prints and became an important art technique in the West by Albert Durer during the Northern Renaissance. To make a print, the artist carves into a block of wood and discards unwanted areas. The remaining raised portion is then inked and printed. Silkscreen prints are stenciled.
Exhibited prints will include student work done during the past 30 years at Limestone College's Art Department. Prints on exhibit have a variety of subject matter, ranging from realistic to non-objective. The public is invited to visit the show, which is free of charge and is open for viewing during the City of Gaffney's regular business hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.
