ERICA LOUISE SELLERS ERICA LOUISE SELLERS A 19-year-old Gaffney woman died Sunday from injuries suffered in an early morning crash on Cherokee National Highway.

Erica Louise Sellers, of 2788 Chesnee Highway, was pronounced dead shortly after 2 a.m. at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, according to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler.

Sellers was the driver and lone occupant of a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier headed south on Cherokee National Highway at approximately 12:50 a.m. when she "drove across the center line and off the roadway for an unknown reason before striking a concrete culvert which caused her vehicle to overturn," Fowler said.

Sellers was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle upon impact, Fowler said. She was transported by ambulance to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where she later died.

The coroner has scheduled an autopsy to assist in the investigation today in Newberry.

According to Fowler, many details of the accident are still unknown.

"The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation," Fowler said. "We're still trying to piece things together and see if we can get things in a reversed order. We probably will not know the exact cause for a few days, but hopefully the autopsy will lend us some information."

Sellers was a 2008 graduate of Gaffney High School and currently enrolled at the University of South Carolina. She is the county's 8th trafficrelated death of 2009.

"This person did not have their seat belt on and was ejected on impact, significantly reducing her likelihood of survival," Fowler said. "That's why we always stress to people to wear their seat belts; you never know when it might save your life."

Seven people have lost their lives on South Carolina roads since Friday, six of whom were not wearing seat belts, according to reports from the S.C. Highway Patrol.
