CUT OUT THAT RACKET!
You might want to think twice before going along with the popular phrase, "Let's make some noise!"
The county's new noise regulations allow its officers to respond to loud noises without a complaint from a county resident.
Prior to the change, a complaint had to be filed before enforcement could begin.
Under the new ordinance, violators risk fines if the noise continues or resumes within 24 hours. Violators also can be fined if they have been advised of the noise regulations two or more times within a 180-day period at the same location.
Under the old regulations passed in November 2006, violators had 30 days to comply with the law.
Council amended its regulations after residents complained they were fed up with the loud noises in their neighborhoods. They told council members the existing regulations weren't stiff enough to stop the problem.
According to the ordinance, a noise is prohibited if its duration or intensity interferes with the comfortable enjoyment of residents.
