Traffic stop leads to drug charges

A Gaffney man was arrested on drug charges early Monday following a traffic stop.

Jarrell Obryant Jefferies, 23, of 502 6th Street, is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana within proximity of a school and possession of crack cocaine.

Officer D.W. Sands of the Gaffney Police Department observed Jefferies traveling in a white Honda at a high rate of speed while Sands was operating a radar gun at Old Georgia Highway and Hyatt Street.

According to a police incident report, Jefferies' vehicle was clocked on the radar at a speed of 48 miles per hour in a posted 35 mile per hour zone.

Jefferies had a driver's license but couldn't provide police with his vehicle registration or proof of insurance, the report states.

After Jefferies refused to give consent to a search, Gaffney police had their narcotics dog conduct an air sniff around Jefferies' vehicle and the dog gave a positive alert, the report states.

A search by Sgt. Ronnie Anderson located a clear glassine bag containing a plantlike substance believed to be marijuana under the driver's seat, the report states. Police allegedly found a set of digital scales and several other glassine baggies.

While being booked into jail, officers located two additional glassine bags containing a substance believed to be marijuana and a rocklike substance believed to be crack cocaine inside the brim of Jefferies' hat, the report states.

According to the police report, two glassine baggies were found inside Jefferies' left shoe.

The report states police recovered 7.8 grams of marijuana, 0.1 gram of crack cocaine, nine glassine baggies and a set of digital scales.
