Is it hot enough for ya?

It finally felt like summer the past few days, but the uncomfortably high temperatures aren't expected to stay around.

Things began to look up — mercury-wise — on Sunday when temperatures reached the mid-to-upper 90s in some spots of the county. It was more of the same on Monday and temperatures remained in the lower 90s on Tuesday.

The temperature did reach 100 degrees at the Greenville- Spartanburg International Airport on Tuesday.

Dew points in the mid-60s pushed the heat index over 100 in most areas of the Upstate the past few days.

The normal highs for this time of year is 88 degrees.

But Scott Krentz, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said the recent above-average temperature readings don't meet the standard definition of a heat wave.

"We've only had a couple of days of this," Krentz said. "A heat wave usually lasts about a week."

Krentz said a combination of a strong ridge of hot air and a lack of cloud cover has produced the hot temperatures.

More seasonal temperatures will return to the area today along with a greater chance of precipitation. In fact, there will be a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms for much of the next week.
