Point of Grace

Hitting several cities during the course of a week, the group rarely gets the opportunity to showcase its talents in an intimate setting, singing in front of an audience that has supported its music for the duration of its career.
Usually big stars come around Gaffney in the days before the annual South Carolina Peach Festival or shortly after the conclusion of the basketball and football seasons.
However, with summer winding down, Point of Grace will help end the season on a good note, trading in the raucous crowds in the nation's largest arenas for the rare opportunity to perform at East Gaffney Baptist Church on Sunday, Aug. 16.
Comprised of Shelly Breen, Leigh Cappillino and Denise Jones, the group has two platinum albums on its resume along with five others that have been certified gold and more than two dozen number one hits, including "Steady On," "The Great Divide" and "Circle of Friends."
Most recently, the trio has been busy in the studio, recording three new songs to add to the deluxe edition of its awardwinning "How You Live" project. The title track won the Gospel Music Association's Dove Award for Country Recorded Song Of The Year.
"The group's readily identifiable sound has fueled one of the most successful careers in gospel music," Dennis Fowler, East Gaffney Baptist Church spokesman said in a prepared statement.
According to Fowler, Gaffney happened to be centrally located between the group's tour dates in Midlothian, Va., and Omaha, Neb.
"It was a situation where (Point of Grace) was going from one concert to another and we got fortunate to land them," Fowler said. "It was great routing and work on their part to include us on their schedule. It's a great opportunity to hear a nationally renowned group like this in a rare church setting."
"Seating is limited, so I strongly suggest that tickets be purchased early," Fowler said.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and are available at the church office at 2308 Cherokee Ave.; by calling 489-8740; or at The Frame Depot, 1107 W. Floyd Baker Blvd.
