Limestone lacrosse coach featured speaker
      Limestone College men's lacrosse coach Mike Cerino will be the guest speaker for a Steak 'n Stake fundraiser Thursday at the local Boys and Girls Club. Tickets for the steak dinner fundraiser are $25 and will help support club programs.

BHS orientations continue; GHS open house Aug. 25
      Blacksburg High will be giving out students' schedules and orientation as follows: August 12 Sophomores schedule pick up in the main office from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. August 13 Freshman Orientation & schedule pick up in the auditorium at 6:30 p.m.

     KIDS COLLECT MONEY FOR MEALS ON WHEELS - During Vacation Bible School at Abingdon Creek Baptist Church the children took up an offering totaling $300 for Cherokee County Meals on Wheels. The funds were donated in memory of Odell Coyle.

      Experiencing success is always a great thing, but begs the question, "Can you do better?' For the Cherokee Historical and Preservation Society (CHAPS), this has become a task each year as the local organization prepares for its annual Fall Classic Car Show.

First Shindig to coincide with "Limestone on Limestone"
      The "Shindig at the Gaffney Cabin" Free Concert Series will return for the fall season on Thursday, August 20. The event will coincide with "Limestone on Limestone," welcoming new and returning students to Limestone College and Gaffney. The event will take place from 6-8:30 p.m.

First Steps seeking grants, holding fundraisers
      A reliance on state funding has not been a healthy financial formula recently for Cherokee County First Steps in providing services to preschool children. State funding has provided the majority of local First Steps budgets since the program's inception in 2001 under former South Carolina Gov. Jim Hodges.
