A Gaffney woman claims a neighbor's dog caused $3,000 in damages to her vehicle while it was parked at her home on Dogwood Drive.

The 28-year-old woman told city police she found her burgundy 2006 Kia Optima covered in paw prints and scratches on the hood when she went out to her carport to leave for work July 31, according to an incident report on file at the Gaffney Police Department.

The incident occurred between July 30 at 9:30 p.m. and July 31 at 7:10 a.m., the report states.

The Gaffney Police Department is investigating an Aug. 10 incident during which a 15- year-old boy allegedly assaulted a 13-year-old girl.

According to a police report, the young girl was walking through Granard Courts at about 7:30 p.m. when the 15- year-old boy grabbed her by the wrist and tried to pull her towards him. The girl tried to "text" for help on her cell phone and the boy allegedly grabbed her hair and took her phone. He allegedly told the girl he wouldn't give the phone back until she performed a sexual act on him.

No sexual assault was reported.

Police said in a report they subsequently located the boy in Granard Courts and that the boy helped police locate the girl's cell phone. The boy was released to his mother.

Two city men were arrested on the charge of distribution of counterfeit marks after the Gaffney Police Department executed a search warrant at a North Limestone Street business Aug. 6.

According to a police report, officers executed a search warrant at Dynasty Clothing, 401 N. Limestone St. based on information received from a confidential informant and found Mark James Smith Sr., 54, and Mark James Smith Jr., 33, sitting in front of a computer.

Police allege the two men were using a music program to copy music to a computer disk. Police said they seized three computers, a computer monitor, a number of CDs and four bottles of alcohol.

A Gaffney Police Department officer responded Aug. 7 to the Prime Outlets — Gaffney regarding a report of a dog locked in a hot vehicle.

According to a police report, the officer found the small dog in a kennel case located on the front seat of the car. One car window was cracked open about two inches and it was 95 degrees outside at the time. The officer reported the dog was flopping around and could not stand. The dog was subsequently diagnosed as suffering from a heat stroke by a local veterinarian.

The dog owner, a woman from Durham, N.C., told police she had been in the mall for about 45 minutes and didn't realize the temperature was so hot.

A tractor and tractor equipment valued at $21,000 were stolen from a Cliffside Highway property between Aug. 4 and Aug. 7.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a Kubota L3130 HST-F tractor with a front end loader and a brush cutting attachment was taken from the 1600 block. Police reported that a shoe print was recovered from the scene of the theft.

A thief targeted a Wilcox Avenue convenience store between Aug. 6 and Aug. 7.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone forced entry to the 96 Outpost between 11 p.m. Aug. 6 and 6:45 a.m. Aug. 7 and took about $200 in small bills and change and a blue denim book bag.

Nearly $700 in property was stolen from a storage building on Deer Ridge Road on Aug. 8.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a thief or thieves entered a storage building on a property in the 200 block between noon and 5 p.m. and took a Snapper lawn mower, two bicycles, two car ramps, two 15-inch car rims, two Zebco fishing rods, a kerosene heater and a CB radio.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the burglary of an Old Georgia Highway commercial building.

Police said someone forced entry to the building in the 3000 block between 11 a.m. Aug. 8 and 11 p.m. Aug. 9 and took numerous items, which were not detailed in the report. The value of the stolen items also was not listed in the report.

More than $4,500 in property was taken from a Potter Road property between Aug. 6 and Aug. 7.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone came onto the property in the 600 block and took two decks with steps, an 8-foot step ladder, a 12- foot extension ladder, and a black-colored 16-foot trailer with dual axles.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of $3,000 in firearms from a Frye Road home.

According to a police report, a suspect took three shotguns, five rifles, four pistols and a knife from a Frye Road home between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on July 24. The suspect was named in the report but no arrest was listed.

About $1,100 in property was stolen from a shop in the 300 block of Darby Road.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone forced entry to the shop between Aug. 1 and Aug. 8 and took a Lincolnbrand welder and a 60- gallon Kobalt-brand air compressor.

The Gaffney Police Department reported the following acts of vehicle vandalism and malicious damage in recent days:

Between 3 p.m. Aug. 5 and 2:30 p.m. Aug. 6, someone threw a rock through the back window of a vehicle parked in the 300 block of West Race Street, causing about $300 in damage.

Between 11:59 p.m. Aug. 5 and 9 a.m. Aug. 6, someone threw a rock through the back window of a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Richardson Street, causing about $900 in damage.

Between 6 p.m. Aug. 6 and 1 p.m. Aug. 7, someone damaged a windshield on a vehicle parked in the 800 block of Beech Street. Damage was estimated at $250.

Between 2 a.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 7, someone "keyed" a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Colonial Avenue, resulting in about $150 in damage.

Between 11:30 p.m. Aug. 7 and 10 a.m. Aug. 8, someone broke the rear window out of vehicle parked at Granard Courts on West Rutledge Street, resulting in about $300 in damage.

Between 10 p.m. Aug. 8 and 7:10 a.m. Aug. 9, someone caused about $400 in rock damage to two vehicles parked in the 400 block of Barclay Avenue.

Between 6 p.m. and 10:54 p.m. Aug. 9, someone caused about $900 in damage by scratching words into the hood, trunk and sides of a vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Elmore Street.
