First Shindig to coincide with "Limestone on Limestone"

2009-08-12 / Local News

The "Shindig at the Gaffney Cabin" Free Concert Series will return for the fall season on Thursday, August 20. The event will coincide with "Limestone on Limestone," welcoming new and returning students to Limestone College and Gaffney. The event will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. and will feature music, food and drinks, informational materials for the students and their families, and much more.

This first "Shindig" of fall 2009 will feature a performance by Jake Haldenwang & Hwy 61, a Southern Rock & Blues band from Charlotte, NC. What stands out most about this band is 13-year-old guitar sensation Jake Haldenwang.

The band has their own blend of traditional, contemporary, progressive, and original rock blues, as well as Jazz, all mixed with searing guitar solos and a harddriving rhythm section. They draw inspiration from artists such as Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, The Allman Brothers, and many more.

Haldenwang was selected as the youth guitarist to represent the Carolinas at the 25th annual Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. His performances combine a variety of powerful influences with a soulful feeling that is rarely witnessed in someone so young. He has also written or co-written thirteen original songs.

Haldenwang has performed with artists such as Blues legend Buddy Guy, The Tommy Castro Band, BB King's All Stars, Contagious Blues Band, Mac Arnold (former bass player for Muddy Waters), and many more.

The band has played venues such as the legendary Double Door Inn, BB King's Memphis Club, Morgan Freeman's "Ground Zero Club," The Burgundy Blues Jazz Club, Midtown Sundries, and many more. Haldenwang's rising popularity all over the Southeast has established him as a highly sought-after artist, and after an evening with him, you'll know why they call him "Smokin' Jake Haldenwang".
