From street runner to gospel preacher
      Sometimes the obstacles one goes through is simply God's way of getting a person prepared for the opportunity to accomplish great things. As a youth running the streets in Blacksburg, preaching the Gospel was not a part of Tim Patterson's plans, instead choosing to live life as if each day was a guarantee.

POLICE REPORT
      The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported several breakins, thefts and an attempted burglary on Wendy Drive in Blacksburg between Aug. 14 and Aug. 15. According to separate police reports: Someone rifled through a vehicle parked in the 200 block between 2:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and 1:30 p.m. Aug. 15.

Price of the proposed county airport just got a little cheaper
      Here's something that doesn't happen every day — the price of the county's proposed airport has dropped. In a preliminary draft of the economic study, WK Dickson Co. put the cost to build a general aviation airport at $45.

County councilman hospitalized
      Longtime Cherokee County Councilman James Batchler has been admitted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after experiencing trouble "getting around." Several weeks ago, Batchler suffered a fall while on his way to a meeting, according to his daughter-in-law Lori Batchler.

Edwards gets nod for post
      State Sen. Harvey Peeler Jr. announced Friday the Cherokee County Legislative Delegation recommended Milton B. Edwards of Gaffney for appointment to the Cherokee County Election Commission. Edwards, a retired Master Sergeant who served in the U.S. Army for 25 years, would replace Cory Reid, who recently resigned from the election commission.

      HICKORY GROVE - The Tri-Cities Community Club is ready for the 92nd annual Hopewell Day on Wednesday, Aug. 19. Big Wednesday, Hopewell Day, Hopewell Picnic, Hopewell Singing or whatever name you associate it with has a long history, in not only York County but in the neighboring counties of Cherokee, Chester and Spartanburg.

Gaffney Cracker Barrel has new retail manager
      LEBANON, Tenn. - Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc. has announced the promotion of Constance Pearce to the position of retail manager of its Gaffney location. Pierce has been with the company since December, 2008, most recently as part of the management team in South Greensboro, N.C. Before joining Cracker Barrel, she had 18 years experience in the retail industry.
