County councilman hospitalized
Longtime Cherokee County Councilman James Batchler has been admitted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after experiencing trouble "getting around."
Several weeks ago, Batchler suffered a fall while on his way to a meeting, according to his daughter-in-law Lori Batchler.
The councilman had appointments with several doctors before finally being admitted to Spartanburg Regional this past Wednesday evening.
Lori Batchler said James has undergone a battery of tests which have apparently revealed he has suffered a fractured hip.
"He thought it was just bruised but he started having pain," Lori Batchler said.
James Batchler added there also is a concern that he has developed a blood clot behind his knee.
The councilman said he had no idea when he would be released from the hospital.
The typically-conscientious councilman noted he would likely miss today's council meeting but would receive an update on proceedings from clerk to council Doris Pearson.
"She aways calls to tell me what happened," he said.
