A Cherokee County Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested Tuesday by SLED.

Troy Edward Cooper, 56, was lodged at the Cherokee County Detention Center as of Tuesday evening, booked on the charge of misconduct in office.

SLED spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons did not have a copy of the warrant when reached late Tuesday, and couldn't provide details of the charge, but confirmed Cooper's arrest.

"We investigated this deputy at the request of Sheriff (Bill) Blanton," Timmons said.

Blanton said he could not comment on the case, other than to confirm he requested a SLED investigation and that Cooper's employment was terminated.

A bond hearing for Cooper was set for late Tuesday. The results were not immediately available before press time.

Cooper was listed on the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office web site as working in civil process and court security.

Timmons said the warrant would be available Wednesday.

Additional details will be posted online once they become available and in Friday's edition of The Gaffney Ledger.
