Woman airlifted after crash
Police were still investigating the accident as of press time and a full report of what transpired was not immediately available.
Aliene Clary, 87, was the driver and sole occupant of a burgundy Buick LeSabre that flipped during the collision, which occurred at the College Drive intersection.
Jane Sanders, also 87, was the driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle involved in the crash, a gray Buick Lucerne.
Both vehicles ended up in the yard of a Limestone Street home, where two parked cars also sustained damage.
One of the cars involved in the crash struck a Gaffney Board of Public Works fire hydrant on the side of the road and firefighters said it appeared the heavy fire hydrant was launched into the rear of a parked Mercury Villager mini-van, which sustained rear-end damage.
A fourth vehicle, a Chevrolet Blazer that had been parked next to the mini-van, was pushed several feet.
Clary's medical condition wasn't immediately available, but firefighters said she was responsive while they extricated her from her vehicle.
The Regional One helicopter transported Clary from a landing zone set up at the Gaffney Middle School.
Officer Michael Scruggs of the Gaffney Police Department is in charge of the investigation.
