Assistant principal at Ewing Middle Schoo

Timothy Edward Phillips, 32, of 1271 Macedonia Road, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Lexington Medical Center.

Born in Spartanburg, he was the husband of Michelle Gardner Phillips and son of Dennis Phillips and the late Debra Barnes Phillips. He was an Assistant Principal at Ewing Middle School. Mr. Phillips attended USC-Spartanburg, received his B.A. degree from North Greenville College and his Master's degree from Gardner-Webb University. He played baseball in high school and in college.

Mr. Philips was a member of Crestview Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, served on several committees, played bass for the church band and drove the church bus. He was a member of the contemporary Christian band, "Anchored." He was a great husband, father and son and a great example to all who knew him.

In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by a son, Caleb Drew Phillips of the home; paternal grandmother, Millie Phillips of Gaffney; and maternal grandmother, Reba Barnes of Mooresboro, N.C.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Willie Phillips, and his maternal grandfather, Bob Barnes.

Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 20, at 4 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church with the Revs. Rick Taylor and Bruce Jennings officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug.19, from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crestview Baptist Church (Building Fund), 3010 Chesnee Highway, Gaffney, SC 29341.

The family will be at the residence.
