Strickland, Rice put up numbers in exhibitions
Sidney Rice Free agents battling for a coveted NFL roster spot must make the most of their limited opportunities.
Former Gaffney and Wofford College standout Andy Strickland did just that when the Jacksonville Jaguars visited Miami in an exhibition game on Monday.
Strickland, who was signed by the Jags in June, entered the game in the fourth quarter and had two catches for eight yards.
Strickland was on the field during a late Jaguar drive.
Andy's father, Gaffney High head coach Phil Strickland, said he had a telephone conversation with his son after the game.
"He was disappointed that he didn't play more, but when he did get the opportunity, he made some catches."
The Jaguars will likely keep five or six wideouts on the roster.
Former No. 1 draft pick out of South Carolina, Troy Williamson, led all Jacksonville receivers with four receptions for 74 yards.
Strickland and the Jaguars will play their second exhibition against Tampa Bay on Saturday.
Another Gaffney High product, Sidney Rice, had one catch for six yards in the Vikings' first exhibition game.
