Amy A. Littlejohn
Amy A. Littlejohn, 89, of 138 Hillside Ave., Mount Vernon, N.Y., widow of Leon T. Littlejohn, brother of the late Henrietta C. Foster, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 15, 2009, at her residence.
Daughter of the late George Peterkin (from Grenada) and the late Amy Georgiana Peterkin (from St. Kitts, W.I.), she was born Nov. 21, 1919, in Elizabeth, N.J., and grew up in Harlem, N.Y., with her mother and three brothers, George, Stanley and Winston, who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cochise Elebuibon.
She graduated from Wadleigh High School in 1937. In 1939, she married Leon T. Littlejohn and they reared two children, Deborah and Leon Jr. They lived in East Elmhurst and later moved to Jamaica, N.Y., where she became a member of Grace Episcopal Church. Mrs. Littlejohn worked for the City of New York Department of Finance for more than 20 years before she retired in the mid 1990's.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Elebuibon of Berkeley, Calif.; her son, Leon T. Littlejohn Jr. (Alberthia) of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; grandchildren, Nyesha, Kamal and Ojo; her greatgranddaughter, Inara, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, greatgrand nieces, greatgrand nephews, a great great-grand niece and other relatives.
Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 20, at 9:30 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 155-15 Jamaica Ave., Jamaica, N.Y., with Father Darryl James officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 2-8 p.m. at Gilmore Funeral Home, 191-02 Linden Blvd., St. Alban, N.Y.
The family is at the residence.
