Two Gaffney men charged in break-ins
The Gaffney Police Department has accused two men of participating in business break-ins.
Jerroid Nathaniel Shippy, 24, of Kennedy Street, and Robert Terrill Epps, 24, of Suez Street, each were charged with two counts of seconddegree burglary in the Sept. 27, 2008, burglary of Sunny's Quick Stop convenience store on South Granard Street, and the Oct. 6, 2008, burglary of Hari Om of Gaffney store on South Logan Street.
Shippy also was charged with seconddegree burglary and safecracking in connection with the Aug. 7, 2009, break-in of the Dollar General store on West Floyd Baker Boulevard.
According to previous incident reports, which listed the suspect(s) as unknown, Sunny's Quick Stop was broken into Sept. 27, 2008, between 1:15 a.m. and 2:20 a.m. Police said someone shattered a glass door to gain entry and cut the phone lines to the building. About $1,600 in cash was taken.
On Oct. 6, 2008, police previously reported, someone shattered a glass door to the Hari Om of Gaffney store between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. and took miscellaneous items. A second person subsequently entered the store and took cigars and shirts. Missing from the store was about $2,000 cash, $225 in shirts, $60 in cigars, and $250 in cigarettes.
On Aug. 7, police responded to the Dollar General store and discovered someone had broken a window to gain entry and then forced open an office door. Police discovered someone tried to gain access to the store's safe, but was unsuccessful. A computer monitor in the office was smashed.
In arrest warrants, Shippy is charged with entering the Dollar General at night with intent to commit a crime and using a tire iron in an attempt to crack the safe.
All of the warrants against Shippy and Epps were served Aug. 18.
Det. Lt. Ron Ramsey investigated the cases.
