Mary Singleton Gilmore, widow of William P. Gilmore Sr., died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009.

Mrs. Gilmore was a member of Limestone Baptist Church, cofounder of The Gilmore Mortuary, a funeral director, retired principal and teacher, a member of Tryon Court No. 3 Heroines of Jericho, Patterson Springs, N.C., and Queen Esther Chapter No. 1 Order of the Eastern Star of Shelby, N.C.

She was the mother of Mildred Brevard (deceased), Shirley Gilmore Tate, William P. Gilmore Jr., H. Singleton Gilmore and James Maurice Gilmore (deceased); she also leaves 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one greatgreat grandchild; a sonin law, Dr. H.W. Brevard III; and daughtersin law, Modestine Gilmore and Martha Gilmore.

Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. at Limestone Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Golden officiating, assisted by the Rev. Arthur J. Smith, Evangelist Ruby Askew, the Rev. Donald Rodgers, Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr., the Rev. Michael Bridges, the Rev. William Duncan, and Bishop Eddie Lockhart. Interment will follow in Gaffney Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of Shirley Gilmore Tate, 3102 Old Georgia Hwy., Gaffney.
