Cherokee County educators learn about power production at Santee Cooper's Energy Educators Institute
      MONCKS CORNER - This summer, Santee Cooper provided handson experience in the fields of power generation and renewable energy to two Cherokee County educators as part of the 24th annual Energy Educators Institute series at the Wampee Conference Center in Pinopolis.

     POLE CAR — The Gaffney Police Department determined a single-vehicle crash on Holmes and Fort Street on Monday morning was the result of a medical problem. Kathy Turner, 42, of Fort Street, was turning left onto Fort Street from Holmes Street when she blacked out behind the wheel, according to a police report. Her car crashed into a utility pole on the side of Fort Street, bringing down cable and telephone lines. Police estimated Turner's car, a 2008 Dodge, sustained about $3,500 in damage.Turner was transported for medical treatment following the wreck. Her car was towed from the scene. (TIM GULLA)

Two Gaffney men charged in break-ins
      The Gaffney Police Department has accused two men of participating in business break-ins. Jerroid Nathaniel Shippy, 24, of Kennedy Street, and Robert Terrill Epps, 24, of Suez Street, each were charged with two counts of seconddegree burglary in the Sept. 27, 2008, burglary of Sunny's Quick Stop convenience store on South Granard Street, and the Oct.

Police ask for help in locating wanted man
      The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is seeking assistance in locating a wanted man. Christopher Dale Brazzle, whose last known address is 409 Wilkinsville Highway, is wanted in connection with multiple burglaries and larcenies in Cherokee County, police said in a release.

Councilman rethinking vote
      Apparently, Gaffney City Council was just blowing smoke when it rejected a proposed smoking ban in cityowned vehicles. Council members in July reversed their personnel committee's recommendation and agreed to allow city employees to continue to light up in city-owned vehicles — if a passenger in the car also is a smoker.
