HBA golf tourney Sept. 25

The HBA of Cherokee County will host its 21st annual golf tournament on Friday, Sept. 25 at Cherokee National. The format is captain's choice and there will be a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.

A hamburger lunch will be served prior to playing the tournament.

The cost to enter a 4-person team is $300. This includes lunch, 2 mulligans and one red tee player. The first palce teams will receive $100 in cash and prizes per player (low gross/net). Second place teams will get $75 in cash and prizes per player. Door prizes will be drawn for at the event.

The HBA is now signing up teams, hole sponsorships at $125 per hole and accepting door prizes, goody bag items and corporate sponsorships are available at $600.

Gaffney Middle to host jamboree

The Gaffney Middle School Chiefs will host the Upstate Middle School Jamboree on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Wednesday, the matchups are Carver (8) vs. Woodruff (8) 5:30 p.m., Mabry (7) vs. Woodruff (7) 6:15 p.m. and Gaffney vs. Granard.

On Thursday, Blacksburg vs. McCracken 5:30 p.m., Ewing (8) vs. Crest 6:15 p.m. and Ewing (7) vs. Gaffney (7) 7 p.m.

Girls fastpitch team to hold tryouts

The Carolina Thunder Cats Girls Fastpitch Softball Organization will be holding tryouts for the 2010 season Aug. 29, 2009.

The Carolina Thunder Cats fields teams with players from South Carolina and North Carolina and is based out of Moore.

Flag football league registration begins

Gaffney 7-on-7 flag football registration time is here.

Games will be played on Sunday afternoons starting Sept. 13 at 3 p.m.

The entry fee is $250 per team. Deadline is Sept. 11. Winners of the league will take home $1,000. For information, contact "DAWK" at 864-425- 1852.

Club memberships at Copies Now

Membership packages for the Gaffney Indian Booster Club are now available for pickup at copies Now, 100 S. Logan St., Gaffney.

Hours are am - 5 pm Monday - Friday. Closed 1 pm - 2 pm for lunch.

Clemson Club to meet Aug. 24

The Cherokee County Clemson Club will hold its fall meeting today at 7 p.m. at the Clemson Extension Office in Gaffney.

Guest speakers are Clemson men's basketball assistant coach Josh Postorino and Larry Williams, lead writer for the website "TigerIllustrated.com" and a former Clemson beat writer for the Charleston Post and Courier. Jason Wilson from the IPTAY office will provide an update on IPTAY.
