Central School alumni to gather October 10 for festive reunion

'Nightcrawlers' will provide music during the afternoon

Cherokee County History and Arts Museum is sponsoring a Central School Reunion on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The reunion will be at the museum, 301 College Drive, the site of the school from 1958-1998. All proceeds raised by the reunion will benefit CHAPS for the operation of the history museum.

The reunion will celebrate Gaffney's oldest public school and honor the many students, faculty and staff who were part of its history. Everyone is invited to attend and view the museum and reunion displays, as well as enjoy special entertainment for all ages.

A "Hall Pass" is necessary to participate in the day's activities and these may be purchased online or at the museum. Prices are $10 for adults, $5 under 12, and $25 for a family pass.

Inside the museum, decades will be honored with skits and special displays in the auditorium. The day will be organized in hour increments, each hour highlighting a specific decade.

On the grounds, the musical group "Nightcrawlers" will perform two sets, one at noon and one at 1 p.m., and food will be sold by vendors. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music and fellowship.

As a special tribute, consider purchasing a brick to honor family, teachers, friends, or yourself. These engraved bricks will be installed on the walkways of the museum grounds and will be available to order for $50 each. Funds raised from the sale will be used for continued renovations of the museum, allowing for increased exhibit, class and meeting spaces.

The reunion committee would like to encourage all Central alumni to help make this day a success by attending, but also by volunteering and sending memories and pictures to the website.

This special day is to raise money for the history museum, but also about reconnecting with old friends and remembering an important part of our history as a community and as students. The website is www.centralschoolreunion. com. There you can sign the guestbook and record your thoughts, take quizzes about Central and view the photo albums.

If you have pictures you are willing to share, you may upload them or bring them to the museum and they will upload them and return your pictures. Visit the site and see more about this special day.

You may also call the museum at 864-489-3988. Hours of operation are Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 2-5 p.m.

The next planning meeting will be held at the museum on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 5:30 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend.
